TASTE OF AFRICA 2017
Organisers of the Taste of Africa event in Tees Valley, the most popular Black History Month event in the North East have shelved plans for this years event after failing to find the necessary funding, despite appealing to the local authority etc.
Spokesperson for the event admitted they face an uphill task to raise the necessary funding needed to put on the event, which pulls great crowds to Middlesbrough to celebrate Black History Month.
The Taste of Africa committee, which organises the event, has decided that this years Taste of Africa will not go ahead.
"We have managed over the years to put on this event with reducing funds from funders but with support from different community organisations and individuals. Our vision is to expand and make the event self sustaining on the long run with the introduction of income generating activities."
"We need the next 12 months to work effectively on pursuing funding for the planned activities in 2018 which would include - costume design, carnival street food, music and Taste of Africa carnival art showcase.
A fundraising page will be set up on our website so please keep checking our website and social media platforms for the link and support the event.
We will also be working with the local communities and businesses to bring back Taste of Africa bigger and better for 2018.
