LOOKING BACK AT TASTE OF AFRICA
The Origins of Taste of Africa
Sade Sangowawa started A taste of Africa in 2004 as a way of addressing stereotypes and generalisations of Africans.
Sade believed that you cannot force people to change especially if they have a preconceived notion about a group of people. “ I believe that if you show the positive side of a group of people and let the public experience this it will, make a more lasting positive change to the individuals lives”.
Hence in 2004 Taste of Africa showcase was born.
As part of Black History Month celebrations A taste of Africa in Tees Valley provides the opportunity to showcase, educate and celebrate the rich African culture, its people and its contributions.
Taste of Africa has provided the platform for people from the African continent to celebrate their culture and celebrate diversity in the Northeast. It's our hope that it inspires future generations of African youths to be the best they can by and we can support Black youths to develop leadership skills needed to be the leaders of tomorrow.
